2. The mid to late Eighteenth century is known as the Enlightenment period. Many had grown tired of
the old order of running countries via monarchs and started to debate the idea of Republics running
governments instead. Men like John Locke (pictured in the slide with his famous essay Two Treatises on
Government) even began to argue that Revolution (no matter who it impacts, even the innocent) is a
necessary aspect of modern society at times. Do you agree or disagree with this idea?
3. Do you think that Ben Franklin's Albany Plan of Union (in which he called for all the colonies (minus
Georgia) to band together to fight the French alongside British troops in North America) was a good idea
or bad idea? Could it really have ever worked? Why or why not?
4. Do you think that King George III's Proclamation Line of 1763 (in which he ordered that no colonists
settle west of the Appalachian Mountains for fear of further Indian conflict) was a good idea or bad idea?
Certainly he knew it would tick off the colonists. Even men such as George Washington and Thomas
Jefferson were angry because they had a chance to make large amounts of money off of that newly
acquired land.
5. What do you think the best course of action was for the colonies in response to Pontiac's Rebellion?
6.In your scholarly opinion, how did print culture (described in chapter 4, section IV) most significantly
