1. Can you write a response to this post? 150 words The U.S. Constitution is important because it established a central government with three federal branches to distribute power and have a checks and balance system and dividing power between the states and federal government. It is also important to because it protects individual rihts and liberties. It allows the U.S to funtion as a democratic system. This new government was introduced in the later 18th century where most of the worlds were run by monarchies. It was a crucial turning point in history. The first amendment is the cornerstone of the American legal system because it protects an individual's fundamental freedom that is essential to a functioning democracy such as freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of press, right to assemble, and right to petition. These are essential to running a functional democracy where individual can express themselves, and hold the government accountable. Although there are limitations they form the framework for rights and liberties and it is still very important today to uphold. The 1st amendment applies to Business, recognizing their right to engage in speech. In some of the first cases such as Citizens United v. FEC, the Supreme Court has extended speech protections to corporations, allowing them to spend money on political campaigns as a form of expression. Htey also have protection of ideas such as patents and copyrights. They are also allowed under the 1st amendment to petition the government for regulations/policies that can impact their business.
