8 Week 6: Chapter 7 Cognition Read Sigelman & Rider (2015) pp. 199-208, 211-227 (Theories on pp. 200-208 may take slow reading). Review Piaget's constructivism in Chapter 6. Conduct an Internet search to shape your own concept of constructivism not only on perception, but also on intelligence and learning. How does a constructivist view characterize human intelligence? Follow the learning objectives under each section heading in the chapter. As you read the text and other materials, give extra attention to the following: • Defining cognitive behavior and ability. • Intelligence from constructivist perspectives as opposed to psychometric intelligence in Chapter 9 • Become familiar with • Piaget's developmental constructivism • Vygotsky's socio-cultural constructivism Cognitive characteristics of infants, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors Notes: This week, besides the routine assignments, you need to do the peer review (PR1). Draft your own short essay and submit to "Submit for PR1" first and then review two peers' drafts to give constructive feedback by writing in the text and/or in the rubric table. Please know: You can submit your own draft beginning on Monday Feb 19 but no later than Friday, Feb 23, to give your peer enough review time. Your review of peers' draft must be due by the end of Sunday, Feb 25. Once you click on "Submit" after your review, your peer can see it. This review process on Canvas is set to "anonymous," allowing the reviewer to be candid in giving feedback. If you find your assigned drafts missing by Friday, please report this to the instructor so you will receive a different draft or two instead of the originally assigned. 4
