(10 points) While talking about the impact of the engineering profession on society, as is one of the goals in this course, it would be irresponsible to ignore the issue of climate change, which is already impacting the lives of millions of people in this country and around the globe, and which the engineering profession is in a position to impact. There are legitimate debates to be had regarding what approach to climate change mitigation preference for one approach or another in this course. Instead I want to encourage students to think about the different options for themselves and arrive at their own conclusions in light of the facts.take – it is not my intention to advance a particular Please write a half-page essay (single-line space, times new roman font no greater than 12 point) with at least two references on the subject of global warming. These references can be web-based but should come from one of the following sources: NASA, The US Department of Energy, the US National Academies of Science or Engineering, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Geophysical Union, the American Physical Society, the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Petroleum Institute, or the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Go to the US Energy Information Administration website and determine how much of the nation's energy needs are being met by carbon-emitting vs. carbon-neutral sources. Comment on the potential economic impact of converting to non-fossil sources and speculate on the best manner in which that can be done in order to protect the climate while limiting economic harm.
