After this topic proposal module, you are going to

compile an Annotated Bibliography (Module 4). An

Annotated Bibliography is a list of useful sources that

you plan to use in Module 5 (the Problem-Solution

Research Paper).

You may begin your research paper after your

topic has been approved.

You cannot change your topic once your final

topic proposal is submitted and you start to work

on the first draft of your Annotated Bibliography.

Purpose

Your purpose is to help your targeted audience

understand the various sources that you prepare,

addressing:

• What is the problem that you are researching?

• What causes the problem?

What are the effects of the problem? Which people

are affected?

What are the possible solutions to solve the

problem? What resources are needed to develop

and implement these solutions?/nThroughout your academic and professional career, you

will be frequently asked to conduct research on a topic

(e.g., a problem), find various sources that help you to

analyze the problem, and develop thoughtful solutions to

the problem. Accordingly, you will be expected to deliver

your research through organized and clear writing to

describe your research preparation work, demonstrating

your competence as an academic and professional writer.

Content/Subject

For this module, you are going to find a topic (a specific

problem) that interests you, preferably a topic that has

contemporary relevance and is debatable. Then, you are

going to conduct research about different solutions to

the problem that you are interested in. You cannot

choose a problem that has already been solved,

and you must narrow your problem to a specific

group of people, region, and/or country. In other

words, you cannot say that "all of the world" or "the

entire country" is affected by this problem, you must be

specific. While this might be true, you are expected to

identify a specific group of audience, so that the solution

you find is tailored to that specific group of audience. The

solutions which you find must be supported by authentic

sources (e.g., those from academic journal articles)./n• Font: Times New Roman
