Application of Theory •The application of the theory (or theories/academic literature) discussed concerning the case example of choice (i.e., the company or brand you have chosen). However, this can also be a social phenomenon, event, organization, website, political event, etc. • Your singular case example could be constructed from various sources, including (but not limited to) electronic sources, books, journals, websites, government documents, company reports, media, etc. d. Conclusion and Recommendation You need to give a brief conclusion and recommendation(s) drawing on your discussions of theories and their application. If you are using internet resources, including YouTube and other digital resources, these must be cited appropriately and include dates of access or retrieval. • This case study is an academic assignment; hence, you should keep to the protocols of academic writing in terms of tone, engagement, use of argument and structure. Instead of personal opinions, use informed analysis to engage with the material. • This is an exceptional opportunity for you to learn how to conduct secondary research, understand and explain some issues through critical discussion of theories/concepts/literature and apply those theories/concepts to develop a case study. Introduction The Introduction is an opportunity for you to set out the parameters of your study (i.e., what you will be doing in the case study). The Introduction should cover the following: The problem/topic/ issue: Explain the question in your own words. Show your own perception of the problem raised in the question. The company/ brand: Mention which brand you have chosen and the rationale behind choosing this brand. 2 • Why is this topic exciting or worth understanding, and what is your likely contribution. • Identification of the critical issues. b. Theories ⚫A theoretical discussion of the critical issue(s) or main topic(s) in the question (academic literature/discussion from academic sources). In your theoretical discussion, you should critically define or discuss the key terms engaging with the relevant literature. Critical engagement of the theory and concepts involves assessing its strengths, limitations and your judgement of its relevance to how it can be applied to the case study you have chosen. •Demonstrate how much literature you have covered through citations and references. Therefore, your case study must have adequate academic references and citations. Overuse of one reference is an indication you may not have read widely. • You should use literature beyond the reading list, and you are encouraged to read widely. c.
