book (see Jamboard for goal setting) I read 28 pages, which is ½ of my book. Reading Strategies used: I used the highlighter option and/or post-it notes, to record my reading strategies (questioning??, visualizing setting, mood; summarizing; inferencing (reading between the lines) I posted examples of beautiful, thoughtful, and and or interesting lines on the Jamboard I have completed the following: Predictions: Vocabulary: Pre-reading predictions During reading predictions Vocabulary List (5 new words)/nBook Circle Discussions/Participation Expectations Each student will be expected to discuss the following: predictions that were made before and during the read; provide ONE favourite new word from vocab list, give definition; say why you like the word • discuss the importance of "Point of view" narration to this story. • share your writing where you change the POV and narrate a scene from that new perspective • Share your thesis statement that argues for three reasons the point-of-view is important to the story. PREDICTIONS A prediction is a guess based on existing knowledge of the text. Readers make predictions using their prior knowledge, their understanding of the world, and their previous experience with similar texts. When we make predictions it is like we are continuing a dialogue with the text. We are coming up with our own ideas and adding them to the ideas of the writer. Pre-reading Predictions: After a quick skim through of the book, looking at the back cover, the author's notes and the text, what do you think the book is about? What 'mood' do you anticipate you will find? Please write in full sentences. During reading Predictions: Continue to record what you anticipate, or predict will happen. Try to predict what will happen to the characters based on the information you know about them already. This may be done in point form./nBook title: Write and define five (5) new words that you discovered in your text and would like to work into your vocabulary. Determine the part of speech for each (noun, adjective, verb, adverb, etc.). Write the definition and create your own sentence using that word.
