You will need to utilize and refine these skills as part of your professional development and practice. This assignment will give you an opportunity to practice your skills and assess your level of effectiveness in their delivery. This session, we look at as an introduction to fundamental skills of conducting a session with a child or youth. ● DESCRIPTION: Closely study the Stages of the Counselling Process from our textbook, power points, lecture and in class discussions. ● Tasks: The student is expected to cover the Prelude to Session (Week 2) and Stages 1-3. Plan to complete phase one of the helping counselling session with another member of your class. •Plan to do Assignment 2 and complete Phase 2 of your session with the same person. You will record your virtual session on zoom for this assignment. This is intended to be a fictitious (not authentic) scenario. (Choose from one of the scenarios below and clearly identify which scenario you have chosen). Gain consent of your partner by explaining how you will use this video, who will see it and what you will do with the video. Before you conduct the session, be sure you have your client's written permission to record the session. Attach the client's written permission to your assignment. Make sure you clearly go through consent and confidentiality in your video with your client. (This form will be provided by your professor). The interview will be 15 - 30 minutes. (Deductions for being outside this time expectation) Follow the stages (1-3) of the counselling session outlined in our class and text. Write a transcript of the session (only of the skills chosen), following the sequence of the actual interview. Create the transcript in the format discussed in class. Use only 3 columns, i.e. “Statement of CYC, skill and Comments". ● ● • Submit for evaluation an interview transcript including as many of the below skills covered in the course. Ideally you need to include 2 examples each of: attending behaviour ● ● ● reflecting feelings identify the stages of the counseling process Rapport building techniques Do not transcribe the entire interview.
