Exp (3): Fixed & Fluidized Beds (Water)

Objective:

To investigate the characteristics associated with air flowing vertically upwards through a bed of granular material as follows:

a. To determine the pressure drop (head loss) across the bed

b. To verify the Carman-Kozeny equation

c. To observe the onset of fluidisation and differentiate between the characteristics of a fixed bed and

fluidised bed

d. To compare the predicted onset of fluidisation with the measured pressure drop
