For this assignment you will be interviewing and observing an adolescent. While conducting the interview take note of the adolescent attitude toward the questions, body language (comfortable or uncomfortable talking to you or because of the subject matter), etc. Introduction (1st section) Include child's name, age, and grade. Cover family information (who lives in home, cultural background, language(s) spoken, etc). Who was present during the interview? Interview (2nd section) List the questions asked and the answers given. Choose at least 15 of the following questions. You can also add your own questions. Use bullet points to separate questions. *Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years? *What did you always want to do or be when you grew up? *What are your goals? *What is your most challenging time or area in your life right now? *Are you happy? What makes you happy? *What qualities are important to you? What qualities do you want to have as an adult? *What will you do differently when you become a parent? *Has your childhood impacted who you are today? *When do you think a person is ready to engage in sex? *How do you feel about yourself? What would you change if anything? What are your thoughts about body image? *What do you think about premarital sex? *What are your family views on dating and marriage? Do you agree? *What are your views on peer pressure? How do you react? *What do you know about cyber dating? Bullies? Eating Disorders? Tattoos? Body Piercing? How do you feel about these areas? *How did you feel about growing up? Body changes, driving, dating, etc? *Who should teach sexual education? School or Home or Both? Why? *When you have personal issues, who do you talk with? Parents, Friends....... *What are your favorite memories about middle school? What would you have changed? *Do you have a driver's license? How did that license make you feel? *What types of pressure do you feel right now? *What are your thoughts about the various types of communication? Twitter, Facebook, Texting, etc? What is your favorite? How do you use your phone? *What traits do you look for in a friend? A friend of the opposite sex? *Do you feel there are gender differences, expectations, capabilities? Do you feel boys or girls are equal or better in any area? *What is your temperament? Do you anger easily? Are you calm? Impulsive? *What are your concerns about the future? *If you bought a tattoo, what would it look like? *What would you like to accomplish before age 25? *How do you feel about drinking, smoking and drugs? *How do you deal with stress at your age? What causes stress? *How important is education to you right now? *What is your favorite memory of school? What is your least? *What is your relationship with your family, friends, siblings, relatives? *What do you do in your spare time? *What do you value in life? *How do you feel about peers who don't take care of themselves? Daily showers? Hair? Etc *Free Questions 1. 2. Evaluation (3rd section) Evaluation of information gained during the interview/observation This is the main part of your paper. Make sure you are going into detail, giving examples and supporting your writing with reference to theory. Should be written in 5-6 well developed paragraphs . Summarize your interview and provide an assessment of that specific adolescent, is this similar to what you thought the adolescent would say? What is different? Why? How does the information relate to your readings from the text? Use child development terminology and theory to support your evaluation. What stage(s) of development is the adolescent in, give examples? If you are interviewing a young adolescent what stage of Piaget's development would this child be in? Use examples from your interview and observation to explain how the child fits in this stage. Find information in our course textbook to support your analysis. If interviewing an older adolescent do your feel this person is in "postformal thought"? (see pages 399 & 400 in your textbook/ebook) Explain and give examples from you interview/observation. Information from the course textbook must be used to support your analysis. Thinking about the Ecological Model developed by Urie Bronfenbrenner (Figure 1.5 and pages 11 and 12 in your textbook or ebook) which microsystems are strongly influencing the adolescent's life? Was it the answers to questions, body language while answering questions or something else that brought you to this conclusion? Explain and give supporting examples from your interview/observation. Thinking about your own development was this similar to what you experienced growing up? Explain and give examples. Final thoughts: Did you enjoy the interview?
