Group Written Project Description CHE 304 - Introduction to Environmental Engineering Fall 2023 Description: This assignment requires you to conduct an original analysis on a topic your choice. However, the topic must be relevant to the content of the course (i.e. environmental). ● This project must contain original research, and analysis could include new data, a new framework or approach for considering old data, synthesis of other people's work, or creative thoughts on how to combine existing information. Thus, a book report or literature review (e.g. a review of other people's work) is not sufficient, but is likely to be a starting point for your project. This project CANNOT be a duplicate of your other course project work. Plagiarism will be checked in every project write-up and is grounds for failure. Plagiarizing your own published work is considered plagiarism and will be handled as such. A few things to keep in mind: The project must include original analysis- you are trying to figure out something that no one has analyzed before. Parenthetical citations must be used (i.e., [1] or (Al-Duweesh, 2022)) with a properly formatted citation list at the end of the paper with all references. you No text should be used word for word from a source. You must reword any information that take from the literature and add a citation after the sentence to give credit to the source where you learned the information. I have a plagiarism checking tool, so do not copy any material word for word, directly from the literature. Any data, concept, or information that you write about in your paper that you learned about from another source, must have a citation after it! This means that your literature review should have a citation(s) after almost all of your sentences. The written assignment must be clearly written with good grammar and punctuation. If you need help with writing, please ask for help. Example of parenthetical citations: If the original source states: "As an island chain lacking fossil fuels, Hawaii must import nearly all of its energy, including relatively expensive petroleum that fuels more than 70% of its electricity generation. For the United States as a whole, oil fuels less than 1% of electricity generation. Because electricity generation costs in Hawaii are tied closely to petroleum prices, residential electricity rates are three times the national average. Hawaii's islands are not connected by transmission lines, so each island must have enough generating capacity to meet local demand and provide emergency reserves. (I got this from http://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.cfm?id=15091 ) I would summarize the main point in my paper as: " Retail electricity costs in Hawaii are three times more than the US average because the state imports petroleum for power generation [1]. or Retail electricity costs in Hawaii are three times more than the US average because the state imports petroleum for power generation (EIA, 2014). Notice that I did not use any of the article word for word, but I used a parenthetical citation because my statement was based on that article. The list of references will include the full, formatted citation for [1] or (EIA, 2014). Specification: Your writing work should look like: Title Introduction • Background/ literature review Methodology • • Results Discussion • Conclusion Length and Format: • Minimum 750 words • 12-pt Times New Roman font, • • single-spaced, 1" margins you can use up to a total of three figures/tables/charts/graphics. (Figures should be in high quality) words in references, heading captions and title block are not part of your word limit (only the body of the text is part of your word count). Title block of Final Paper must include: • Title of your paper First name and Last Name of Author(s) • Date Submitted • Fall CHE304 - Final Written Project Word count Citing your sources: The paper must include parenthetical (in-text) citations with a full list of bibliographic citations.
