male employees have to wear and vague about what the women have to wear. "Looking professional" can look very different to every person. Whereas a three-piece suit is very formal and profession and will appear that way to everyone. For some women professional can be slacks and a nice button up, for other women it could be a very tight short skirt and a low cut blouse that may be revealing. In many people's opinions, revealing clothes are not considered profession, but there are people out there that will argue it is. For example, the salon I work at we have a very strict dress code for both genders. We have a rule that leggings and lowcut shirts/blouses are not allowed, anything that shows your stomach is also not allowed. Same goes for the men in our salon, no skintight pants or leggings, and button up must be buttoned up to at least the second top button, basically no butt, boobs, chest hair or stomachs. It is also within our policy that we must have our hair done, regardless of gender and our makeup or skincare done.
