Here is an outline of a research study: A researcher believed that simple repetition of information is not necessary for information to be stored in long-term memory. Instead, the researcher thought that information that is processed more deeply is more likely to be remembered. She tested this on the students who were present at her first-year introduction to psychology lecture. Each student was given a piece of paper with 50 words on (List 1). The instructions on the paper stated to memorise the list by silently repeating each word. 10 minutes was given for this task. The word list papers were then collected. Finally, students were each given a blank piece of paper, and given 5 minutes to write down all the words they could remember from the two lists. The study was conducted in compliance with relevant ethical guidelines. Ethical approval for the study was provided by the Research Ethics Committee of the Psychology Department. The report should include: 1) A title page (with a title for the research report, and your student ID number). 2) A short abstract (around 50 to 100 words). 3) A short Introduction, with background, relevant literature, and hypothesis. 4) A Method section, including participants, design, materials, and procedure. Relevant ethical issues should also be noted. 5) A Results section, with descriptive and inferential statistics, at least one table, and at least one figure. 6) A Discussion section, with a summary and interpretation of the results; evaluation of the study; conclusion. 7) A reference list. Appendices, with relevant supporting materials (e.g., statistical calculations) may also be included. Your report should be about 1000 words, with a maximum of 1250 words. The word-count includes in-text citations, but excludes the title page, abstract, tables, figures, appendices, and reference list. You should include a word-count on the title page. The report must be submitted electronically through Turnitin on the Assessment PYOPSY Blackboard page. The file should be a word document (.doc, .docx, .odt, or .rtf).
