As the writer you need to decide the audience and purpose for writing about your driving question. For example, your audience could be the rest of the class and the purpose would be to educate them about a particular aspect of the climate crisis. Or you may decide that your purpose runs deeper in that you do not just want to educate but you also want them to take some kind of action. This later goal may inform how you introduce and discuss the readings with your class. Other audiences you might choose are your home community, disciplinary home, or potential funder who may support your exploration of your driving question. With this assignment you choose the driving question, purpose for exploring that question, and the audience you wish to engage with as part of your process. Your instructor through in-class activities and workspace assignments will help you identify the processes needed to complete this project. Here are the general steps for this project. Your instructor will provide more details in class and/or on Canvas. Step 1: Choose a driving question that you want to explore this quarter. Maybe it's a question that remains from SYN 1. Maybe it's a question from another class. Maybe it's a question sparked from the SYN 2 texts around systems or individual action. Pick a question that interests you and that you want to spend the course exploring. Interesting questions tend to derive from a personal connection to the climate crisis so it's worth asking: what do you care about in relation to the climate crisis? Step 2: Research this question. Step 3: Write a 4-5 page first draft of your assignment. You will work with your peers to give and receive feedback on your draft. Then you will submit a first draft. Step 4: Conference on first draft. During Week 5 you will meet with your instructor for a short conference. During the conference you will discuss your first draft as well as your work throughout the quarter. It's a good time to check in on the progress you're making toward your learning goals.
