Instructions: You should open with a brief introduction (2 minutes max) of the most important aspects of the comic for the audience (additional relevant information can be introduced during your discussion and analysis). Then move into a discussion in which your group members provide your individual analyses of the comic. As with any analysis, your discussion should be grounded in the time period of the comic, the intended readership (popular, literary, adult, child, teen, male, female), the format (newspaper, high quality book, issues). Your analysis should use the formal elements to support your points. Your response can be positive, negative, a mix of the two, and include questions. You should have some analytical points. Examples can include the metaphorical aspects of the narrative, the representation of gender, heroism, morals, portrayal of emotions, science, capitalism, etc. Formal elements include: the creation of focal points, how panels are used, the relationship between panels and pages, the use of line and color, and the relationship between word and image and how the formal elements create meaning.
