By reading the textbook chapter, and incorporating the videos below, you will learn about theories of development into the self, why socialization matters, and the role of socialization over our life course. Then, we move on to chapter 6, where we talk about groups and group dynamics. After reading the class materials and posting in the discussion, you will be able to describe and discuss the types of groups in society, how group size affects the structure and influence of groups, and the types of large organizations. You will also be able to describe how the processes of McDonaldization and Groupthink play a role in our lives. As usual, our discussion board has prompts giving you context for each of the videos, as well as some questions regarding the process of socialization and group dynamics. In this two-week experiment 24 male college students participated in showing how people will react to authority. Half were prisoners the other half were guards. The guards were allowed to treat the prisoner however they wanted, even hostile or dehumanizing. According to chapter 6 in the textbook humans are more likely to feel empowered when working in a group with other humans. In my opinion I think the guards who were "fair guards" were genuinely good people and the ones who did dehumanize people just reflected on their true personality's. Just because you have power doesn't mean you should always use it and abuse it. This is a good scenario in everyday life to explain social behaviors; for example, performing in large groups might make you perform better because we are more likely to do things in groups, we wouldn't do alone. This experiment also gives insight on how situations can affect one's true behaviors. Reply 1 Reply, 1 Unread Alise Brock AB revious May 29 2:12pm 个 MAY 29 tv ④ A W acBook Air Next
