a topic relevant to your profession/interest. For instance, you can consider evaluating a program or intervention relevant to your profession/job. Please note that "research" in this class is not just referring to searching what we already know (that is simply the literature review component), but actually conducting new, original research. Further, a research topic is not yet your research question. In fact, at this point, you should NOT have a research question. That comes after you complete the literature review. A general topic is appropriate, but until you know what has and has not been done and what the gap in knowledge is (known as the "research gap"), you can't identify a research question. Select one of the scholarly works you reviewed and write an annotated bibliography for that article that informs the key points of the potential research topic. Summarize the literature by addressing the following • Author information - Who is the author? What is her/his background? Is the author qualified to write this document? • Author's purpose - What is the author's purpose in writing this literature or doing this research? • Author bias - Does the author show any biases or make assumptions upon which the rationale of the literature rests? If so, what are they? • Methodology - What methods did the author use to obtain the data? Be sure to provide strong details about their methodology, including participants, data collection methods, and analysis approach. • Author conclusion - What conclusions does the author draw? Are the conclusions in sync with the original purpose of the research and supported by the data? Are the conclusions skewed by bias? • Assessment of the literature's quality and relevancy to the potential research topic - Is the work current? Does it conflict with conventional wisdom, established scholarship, government policy, etc.? How is the literature relevant to the potential research topic? Explain. o NOTE: Remember to avoid all first-person references (e.g., I, we, us) as well as personal beliefs throughout the paper. Provide an assessment of the articles and their relevance based on evidence. 4.
