"Multiculturalism refers to the "integration, acceptance, and embracing of cultural differences" (Sue & Sue, 2016, p. 747) that promotes diversity, socially just inclusion, and peaceful co-existence (American Psychological Association [APA], 2017; Gibson, 2012; Sue & Sue, 2016)" (McConnell et al., 2021). Multiculturalism should be incorporated within the integration of psychology and theology because it offers two different perspectives on an important subject matter. I can connect multiculturalism to my personal experience of being born a Hispanic/African American and being surrounded by individuals within the Caucasian race. Growing up, the elementary school that I attended was not that culturally diverse, and as a result of this, I experienced a lot of bullying and racial/cultural TI Activities a Assignments Choices Feedback ③ Forums Learning Extras Resources 55°F Clear Q Search WE 12:38 AM 4/9/2024 + ← M Inbox (33,394) - sayansola5@grX M Christian class initial post week X https://course.lapu.edu/mod/forum/view.php?id=1383079#p1893554 LOS ANGELES PACIFIC UNIVERSITY 55°F Clear My LAPU Discussion 6 | Multiculturalism, × Home Dashboard My courses Helps APU Library Tech Support of this, I experienced a lot of bullying and racial/cultural discrimination. Thankfully as the world has grown more accepting of multiculturalism, the discrimination has decreased; but this doesn't ignore the fact that throughout the years, I have personally witnessed a lack of multiculturalism within my community, as well as an increase in acceptance of multiculturalism. My viewpoints stand strong and in support of multiculturalism. From a theological perspective, when I see an individual I do not see their race or culture; instead, I see them as another human created at the hands of the Lord. Acts 17:26 states, "From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands" (Bible StudyTools). This biblical verse aligns with my viewpoints abou. multiculturalism because it proves that God made every human being a descendant of an ancestor, but in the end, we are all deeply connected/rooted in God. From a more psychological viewpoint, I view multiculturalism as an important factor to consider especially when it comes to assisting clients. It will allow you to assist them to the best ability because you are aware of their ethnic and cultural background. Romans 15:7 states, “ Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, to bring praise to God" (BibleGateway). This biblical verse aligns with my personal psychological views on multiculturalism because it supports my belief that it is important to accept your clients no matter their race or culture; just as our Heavenly Father accepts us.
