Self-awareness is a critical tool of anti-oppressive social services work. • Use language that is reflective of anti-oppression or empowerment, rather than everyday language. Discuss the following questions related to Allyship: (3 marks) • What, if any, change have you noticed in your willingness to address discrimination. Think about situations with friends, with family, in your workplace. If there has not been a difference, what has held you back? • When would you have liked to have been a better ally for a person or group and what kept you from being that? 3. What biases am I bringing to my work as an ally? Include those you have uncovered and describe what that was like for you. (4 marks) Describe any population with which it may be difficult for you to work and analyze the reason for this. State whether this is something that you feel that you should overcome, and if so, what you might do to make it easier for you to work with this population./n4. Describe a population (that you are NOT a part of), that you would like to work with as an ally. (4 marks) • Are there any specific groups or people you can join with ie the Learning Disability Association of York Region/Ontario or PFLAG or others related to the population you want to work with. What kinds of activities or events can you imagine bringing to the group; in other words, what strengths might you offer? Are you good with social media, creating posters or bringing art work, can you organize community events well or be an able participant in rallies, gatherings. Be as specific as possible. Go back to the goal you chose for yourself in the Week 4 activity – remember you said, "I will be a better ally by ..." Discuss this and consider if you would like to change it, update it. If you did not achieve the goal, discuss why not, and where you want to go from here to achieve it. Specifically refer to where you would like to use the learning you have done in the next semester and in placement next fall. CYC102F2023 2 5. Create a final paragraph as a conclusion. This is an opportunity to sum up your learning, your new awareness or the process of writing the paper. (.5 marks) 6.
