They can develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)from this situation (American Psychological Association, 2018). Both situations experience Sympathetic Response Acceleration of Heartbeat. The sympathetic nervous system triggers the release of adrenaline, leading to an increased heart rate (Physiology, stress reaction - StatPearls - NCBI bookshelf, 2022). Prepares the body for "fight or flight," enhancing blood flow to muscles for quick action (Physiology, stress reaction - StatPearls - NCBI bookshelf, 2022).The pupils dilate to improve visual acuity, aiding in detecting potential threats. Breathing becomes rapid and shallow, oxygenating the blood to support heightened physical activity. Once my Patient's threat subsides, the parasympathetic nervous system counters the sympathetic response, slowing the heart rate to baseline levels and promoting relaxation. My Patient's parasympathetic system reverses the dilation of pupils, returning them to standard size.
