Prior to entering the lab for any experiment, you must fill in a COSHH form and/or Risk Assessment to assess the risks and determine the required protection measures to implement in your experiment. The forms will be assessed by one of the demonstrators. Template forms are available on Canvas for downloading and/or printing. You may be asked questions about safety aspects of the experiment and these will count towards your assessment. A copy of your COSHH and/or Risk Assessment forms MUST be included as an appendix in your report. Complete a Risk Assessment (RA) or COSHH form (or both) for each experiment before starting, as indicated: TP: Transfer Processes PREPARATIONS BEFORE CLASS C: Control RE: Reactor Engineering SP: Separation Processes THE: Thermodynamics ENG: Renewable Energy ENV: Environmental treatment and analysis ■ ■ You should also prepare by studying the relevant scientific and technical content relevant for each experiment as you will be asked questions about it and assessed during the session: Read carefully the entire experimental procedure document well ahead the session to gain an understand of what aspects you have to study beforehand. Search for additional information on the topic on the recommended bibliography or references list. ■ FM, HT and HX: RA MT: RA and COSHH all: RA all: RA and COSHH SP1 and SP2: RA SP3: RA and COSHH all: RA ENG1: RA ENG2 and ENG3: RA and COSHH all: RA and COSHH Chemical Engineering Review any materials form the module(s) associated with that experiment if the content was already covered. If you have not covered the topic in another module yet, ensure you study the theory ahead of the lab session using the relevant text books. Stage 2/3 Laboratory Handbook 2023/24 ii ■ Make notes in your lab notebook that can help you during the experiment. Collect any data from literature or handbooks and do any pre-calculations you may need for your calculations.
