NOTE: Can use any software to make the required poster. This is the first draft, so need to send in an editable format ALSO. Can use the website provided in the

assignment file also./n Instructions of the poster project First draft: The design of the poster: 2. 1. You need 7 different text boxes (Title, Introduction, 3 parts, Findings or conclusion, references). Text boxes can differ in size in placement but should be in sequence, you may show or hide their borders, "Justify" the text on word document. (You can check research posters templates online). The images / pictures/ charts.. or any visuals, need to be professional and related to the topic, not for entertainment. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Same font for the whole poster, ALL content should be readable from distance. Different font size for the Title, content, and references. Colors used should be contrast and attractable. Check research posters templates online. Submission of e-poster on the blackboard is a requirement. But submission of printed poster is optional. The Title The Title should include: title of our college, title of the poster, Your name and ID, the course, the professor, the semester. The Content 1. Introduction: The introduction should include: The importance of the topic + your research question (the question you need to answer from the poster). The introduction should be very short to save space for the following parts. The three parts 2. Part 1: Put a title to show there is an identity crisis that needs our attention Do you study your country after independence (i.e. nationalism here means independence from colonialism and the country is fighting for its National identity?) Or do you have a social integration problem and some groups feel they do not belong to the identity of the country and they have a different identity? In this case, you need to show us the diversity in the country, the statistics, and how some groups feel not integrated, and if this discrimination is coming from society actions or government policies and laws? (because the response will be different) Part 2: Put a title to show the solution (the government response or policy, or the response of the identity group, or both) What were the solutions or government/ society responses to the crisis? If you are studying at independence, then the government is an occupier and the society seeks independence from occupation. How? If you are studying any other period but independence, you need to show us what actions did the government or identity group take to solve the crisis (Genocide, Killing, displacement, separation, self- rule.. etc) (example South Sudan and Sudan, Kurds Iraq or Turkey, Russian 15 republics and the Soviet Union... etc. Part 3: put a title to reflect the consequences or impact (i.e. if the solution worked or failed). Show us if the previous action worked or failed. (i.e. did it solve the identity problem (which means it worked), or the problem persists (which means the response or the policy failed). Show the impact of the response of the government or the identity group or both. (Positive or negative consequences, the problem of identity solved, or continues) Did the conflict end? How? Or does it continue? Why? 3. Conclusion: This is not a typical conclusion like normal researches. Because we have a limited space and we need to save it to the various parts. This means we limit the conclusion to our findings which can be one the following: If it woked: what are the tips you give to other countries in the same situation to help them. If it failed: what went wrong and how can we avoid it in the future. List of references 1. Only 5 academic: researches, research in academic journal, book chapter (but you have to specify which chapter(s) 2. 3. 4. All written in APA style, 5. All numbered, Make sure they are accessible. They have to be on the topic (not on another country or on identity in general) 6. All in alphabetical order by the surname (do not put the URL only) 7. The references should be placed in smaller font than the content and smaller space to give more space to the content. They should be placed at the end of the poster to the left. Example: Surname, first name or initials. (year). Title. Publication (journal), Vol (issue), pages. Where are the references. we need 5 academic references (researcher papers, research in academic journal, book chapter(s)). Example: THE CLEANSING OF NATIVE AMERICAN IDENTITY INTRODUCTION In the US, Native Americans faced a tragedy of lost identity decades ago. Being removed from their homelands, that represented the power of their traditions, culture and spiritual beliefs, Native Americans found their identity close to vanishing, and their survival that is based on a strong, tight attachment to their land is under a threat of 'never return". "We're not not dead, our traditions and our knowledge has never disappeared, we're still alive"- a Native American. What are the origins of the crisis? Has it ever been solved? Are Natives still suffering? . SMES grupet White House a year after they were Calvin Coolidge and en the right to vote in the indi Started negotiating agreements with natives 1800's • Started treaty-making policies; called (bad paper) 19th century: US rejects natives self-governing nations; strategies undermining tribal sovereignty . BACKGROUND HISTORY American power grew after independence 1776, realizing that they were not alone on theses lands Indian nations faced: broken treaties, vast land loss, removal/ relocation, population decline, cultural loss Therefore, natives getting dragged into a non- ending swirl of a devastating identity crisis. Another example: TURNING POINT | ID CRISIS The Indian Removal Act | that was signed into law by President Andrew Jackson on May 1830, that authorizes the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands of the natives. Followed by a genocidal strife. like "Trial of Tears"-A series of forced relocations 1735 ASPECTS OF IDENTITY CRISIS Loss of Existing Mother/ Native Land Map by National Geographic Society Prohibition of Religious Practices Banned Traditional Practices in schools Increased Poverty among Natives Loss of Native Language/oral Naditions Loss of Tribal Sovereignty INDIAN REMOVAL SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES (1831-1847) 1 3 4 5 CAUSES OF IDENTITY CRISIS (Historical Events): Ex. Manifest Destiny • Loss of native land by force (Indian relocation): Ex. Relocation Act 1956 • loss of tradition attached to land (government policies): Ex. 1800's Treaties • loss of rights and tribal sovereignty (Federal Boarding School Systems): • loss of mother language; identity (Stereotype/ discrimination/ mimicry): • loss of the will to live as a Native American. Natives committing suicide RESPONCES AND SOLUTIONS State Realizing that reservations isolated the Native Americans instead of solving the tense crisis between them and the government, Congress decided the resolution to this increasing belonging be the (total assimilation of Indians) Which is NOT a solution! "Kill the indian and save the man"-Richard Henry Pratt Society Opposition campaigns, including Indian communities; Christian missionary organizations; reform minded, pro-human rights. citizens, women's organizations; political parties. Arguing that US has faced a problem of assault on Indian land and social life. Aiming to: US to uphold its treaty commitments by protecting the Indian nations against settlers and the states and meeting its financial obligations to the Indians. DIDN'T WORK EITHER! Natives (Pan-Indian Movement): Formation of (Native American Church), first Pan-Indian group was the Society of American Indians, which achieved i federal government to pass the American Indian Citizenship Act 1924. BUT, even after the Act, Native Americans weren't allowed to vote because the right to vote was governed by state law! (20th Century Native American Literature): Renewal preservation of tribal culture and oral tradition, belief system, religion and attachment to the land can now be traced in the literature written by Indian authors, helping urban Indians overcome the confusion of IDI WE ARE HERE TO PROTECT CONCLUSION Various historical events of removal, boarding school education, relocation, have all resulted in a phenomenon of American Indian identity crisis. Native Americans affiliation to their identity led them to fight along to sustain the sense of belonging, and maintain their culture that was taken away. Nowadays, and even after achieving some kind of identity recognition, Native Americans still suffer phases of discrimination, humiliation and stereotype. Being from the 25% of US population suffering from under-federal poverty, and high rates of suicide among teenagers, they're surviving! To conclude, Natives has cooperated with the US government since the two WW, using their mother tongs as a (coded script), to gather information. Doesn't this amazing oral tradition worth an international recognition? Don't these people deserve full rights of any other American citizen? And get the right to vote? SOURCES AND REFERENCES 1.
