Part of architecture is determining the board feet of lumber. Cabinet grade grade lumber is sold by the board foot and can become quite expensive. Cabinet lumber is sold by 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and so on. A Board foot is 144 cubic inches or 12" x 12" x “1 or any combination of the three. Lengths are usually given in feet and the feet must be turned into inches. For example a piece of wood is 5" wide, 5 inches thick and 13 feet is 13 x 12 or 156. Go 5 x 5 x 156 then divide by 144.
