Problem 1. The Channel Tunnel (or Chunnel), is an underwater tunnel connecting the UK and France under the English Channel. If the 50.5 km long tunnel were built on the surface of the seabed, it would be on average 50 m below sea level. If the tunnel diameter is 7.6 m, what is the hydrostatic force acting in (a) the horizontal direction on each side, (b) the vertical direction, and (c) the net force acting on the tunnel? The density of sea water is 1027 kg/m³, and the tunnel is open to the atmosphere at either end. 50 m Mi Tunnel 7.6 m
