Question # 3: Chi Square Test of Independence An international consulting firm surveyed business leaders across private and public organizations and asked if their workforce planning strategy was to add to

their current headcount by adding new hires, layoff workers through a downsizing process, or keep things as they are with no change anticipated with their employee numbers. A sample of 180 leaders responded to the survey. The research question of interest is whether workforce plans are associated/dependent on type of company, public vs. private. Access the data by opening the Excel3_Data workbook, and viewing the worksheet named WorkForcePlan ChiSquare The data are in cells A2:B181 and variable labels are in cells A1 and B1. 1. What is the independent variable (IV)? What is the dependent variable (DV)? 2. State the null and alternative hypotheses in words. Use the variable names. 3. Calculate a chi square test of independence. Can you reject the null hypothesis? How can you tell? State the appropriate values. 4. Create a clustered column (bar) chart of your results. 5. Report and compare the percentages of private vs public organizations who indicate that their plans to reshape their workforce, ie, adding, laying off or making no changes. 6. Report and interpret the appropriate effect size. 7. Report and interpret the variance estimate. 8. Using APA format, provide a complete description of your results (chi square, effect size and variance estimate.
