•Real Data Research & presentation project The purpose of this project is to dig into industry/company by exploring a range of datasets available and analyzing selected data using the methods learned
in class. This is an activity that offers you project-based hands-on learning opportunities. The project entails the students formulating a research topic/question, designing methods to answer your question, collecting and analyzing data, interpreting results, and presenting findings and insights to the class. - Work delivery A student needs to identify a company, industry, or scenario of interest. Then you need to think about a research question you want to answer about the identified area. Topics can vary widely depending on student experience and interests, and can include any areas of your interest. Then you need to collect relevant data and use techniques learned in class to examine the data. Contents of project presentation The key tasks are: current Identify a scenario, a company, or an industry, and think about a question you want to answer Collect sufficient relevant data. Understand and clean the data. Analyze data using methods learned in class to answer the question you have formulated. Present your findings and insights you can offer based on your findings. Prepare a 20minute presentation. This project simulates the professional working environment that you will be joining soon through a project-based learning opportunity. This is largely a self-directed project. The objective is to encourage applications of tools learned in class to solve real-world problems. It is also important that you present your findings drawn from raw data in a compelling and persuasive way. The presentation needs to contain, and not limited to, the following sections: 1. Introduction: Elaborate on why the topic is important. Include: o Research question/topic: describe the business problem or scenario studied in your project. Benefits gained from answering the question. 2. Company and industry overview: A general description of a company and the industry of your choice. An industry overview includes descriptions about the market, an overview of the competition, and overall projection of the market. You provide background of your question. 3. lov Data sources: describe how you collected the data (databases, sources, etc.). 4. Descriptive statistics: describe the variables included in the study. Explain variables included in the study. In case using supervised learning, state what is your target and what are your explanatory variables. Provide summary statistics and a correlation table. 5. Methods: explain the methods you are using. You can use linear regression or any methods appropriate to analyze your data. Explain the empirical model of your analyses./nAdvantages and challenges: include advantages of and challenges you fac when using the methods of your choice 6. Analyses and results: Analyze your data using methods learned in class and prese the results with appropriate interpretations. Explain how your results answer your research question. 7. Insights/recommendations: based on the evidence supported by your findings, formulate recommendations/strategies to inform stakeholders. 8. References: make sure to include all references in the list. Students can schedule an appointment with the instructor before the presentation to discuss ideas and contents. Submission items Your need to submit the presentation file (e.g., PPT) and raw data, as well as the code that c "reproduce" your outputs. You code should include explanatory comments of what you did, a how you interpret your findings. The code provides the steps, which can exactly reproduce th numbers, tables, and figures in your presentation.
