Research Essay (25%) DUE: Sunday, April 7, 2024 (online submission by 5:00 p.m.) Canadian Toronto time ______________________________________________________________________________ This assignment is an opportunity for you to bring together many things you’ve learned this semester to produce a “clear, logical, and well-organized document that meets communication standards of post-secondary health science programs and the healthcare workplace.” Your paper will rely on scholarly research sites “to demonstrate research proficiency and academic integrity standards.” (Course Outline, Learning Outcomes). The Task: Write a research essay* of approximately 750 – 1250 words on one of the topics below. Note that most of these topics are intentionally broad, so your first step will be to narrow your chosen topic to make it more manageable (ie. be more specific and focus it). For example, the effects of COVID-19 is a very broad topic, so consider how you would narrow its focus. Some possible effects include: on the economy? on the family? on physical health? on mental or emotional health? on women? on children? Etc. In other words, narrowing the focus of this topic is critical to its success in an essay. Your topic, and how you’ve narrowed its focus, will determine the number of paragraphs for your essay; there is no “one size fits all” model. However, the standard five-paragraph essay will work well for this assignment. >>>For further information about writing academic essays, please read Chapter 3 in your textbook: Salem-Wiseman, L. & Zaman, S.
