Response Two Post 2-1 Discussion: Databases and Businesses Sonny Coutu How do you think a database can help you solve business problems? Databases are a secure and efficient way to store

data which means that any time you want an accurate "fact"(information) you can easily look it up. A business really is just a grouping of data( financials, merchandise count, personnel, etc.) so most problems a business would encounter would be fixable by looking at its related data. While a small business could run without using databases, other than its operating cost, it's just so much more efficient, reliable, secure and accessible than using something like a binder/book. You can't calculate faster than a computer, you're more likely to make mistakes, the book won't be in a coded vault every time you aren't actively writing in it and you can't write in the book while away from the business; yet a DB can basically do all of these things and better than any one person could./nWhat types of businesses might use a database? For what? ALL types of business could benefit from a database. The only reason not to run a database system would be things such as if the cost of running one would affect the business too much or the time spent setting up and using it would take up too much of the company's time. A kid selling candies in the front yard, yea a database may not really help increase sales and profits. Entering information in a database would probably take more time than its worth also. A family grass-cutting business though? They can use a free internet-access database to know who needs their grass cut weekly/monthly, the cost, yard size, if they're up to date in their payments, phone numbers, dated picture of the job done and much more./n
