Rig 4 This should be designed so that it can pump water from a source tank round in a loop. Within the loop there must be a pressure indicator, diaphragm

control valve, variable area flow meter (VA) and non-return valve (the non-return valve is to stop water flowing back down through the flow meter). An extra tank and dosing pump should also be included in this system to dose in a chemical (food colouring) just before the control valve (why do you think this might be the case?). Ball valves must also be included so that it is possible to alter the flow path in order to drain the tank and to connect to Rigs 3 and 5. The rig must also be designed so that it is possible for a bypass around the VA (for experimentation) to be added by including termination points. It should also be possible for Rig 4 to receive water back from Rig 5 (use termination points). The following experiments need to be able to be conducted on the individual rigs: a) Determination of the pump curve (pressure versus flowrate) for the centrifugal pump. b) Installation of a bypass line with an orifice plate around the VA, to produce a lower flowrate through the main line. Ratio of flow in the main line in relation to the bypass for each rig are as follows: Rig 1 3:1, Rig 2 4:1, Rig 3 3.5: 1, Rig 4 5:1, Rig 5 4.5:1. When producing any P&ID a lead sheet with a key to the symbols used is vital.
