Second Essay (50 points): Insofar as Buddhism arose as a critique of Hinduism, this second essay will focus on the ways that the Twelve Acts of the Buddha represent a direct

critique of Hinduism, specifically the stages of life for the twice born. In this essay, you should list and describe the stages of life for the twice born and how this figures into the fundamental problem and ultimate goal of Hinduism. You should then describe the points in the twelve acts where Siddhartha's life corresponds to these stages. Finally, you should articulate the ways that Siddhartha's journey critiques not only the process but also goal of "liberation" in Hinduism.
