Question

The remainder in division is either reported (5 ÷ 2 = 2 R 1), fractional (5 2 = 2%), or decimal (5 ÷ 2 =2.5). In addition to choosing the

appropriate type of notation for specifying the remainder, how to treat the remainder is entirely dependent on the context; sometimes the remainder needs to be discarded, incorporated, or rounded. For each of the situations presented above in 3.14, determine the appropriate notation for the remainder and determine how to treat the remainder. Example: The peanut butter is on sale, 2 jars for 4.49$. How much does each jar cost? This is a sharing context and each jar will cost 2.245$→ 2.25$; it would not make sense to write 2%!17
