• Students will create an inventory list, of books intended for the preschool-aged child, listing a minimum of 10 books.
• Students will analyze or discuss the books in terms of developmental themes or principles and identify each of those themes within the children's books they
choose.
• Take a look at the books in terms of content
Example:
• Many children's books attempt to strengthen children's development with respect to moral development (e.g., lying, stealing), coping with adversity or stre
(e.g., death, divorce), enhancing cognitive development (e.g., vocabulary, information), teaching skills, social development (e.g., sharing, self-esteem), or
tolerance to diversity (e.g., racial or religious differences).
⚫ Students will look at the books they choose also in terms of gender, stereotypes, artwork, intended messages, possible unintended interpretations, attenti
span or memory, and any other developmentally related themes (e.g., is the book designed for the fine motor skills of the reader?).
Part 2: Choose one developmental theme mentioned above and write a descriptive essay. What other book could you choose to support this theme?
Essay must be 1-2 pages in length, 5 paragraphs, 3-5 sentences per paragraph, written in APA format, include a minimum of at least one scholarly article to
support the developmental domain being examined, and provide a reference page.
