Especially Al A1. Two gas containers are connected by a 30 cm pipe with an internal diameter of 50 mm. Container 1 contains pure oxygen and has an internal volume of 60 litres. Container 2 contains pure helium and has an internal volume of 200 litres. The system is maintained at 25°C and atmospheric pressure. The diffusivity of oxygen into helium is 7.29 × 105 m².s¹. (a) Calculate the initial rate of diffusion (mol.s¹) of oxygen towards container 2. (b) [5] Calculate the final mass fraction of each species in both containers once equilibrium is reached. [5] (c) State and explain how the mass flux and mass flow rate would vary if (i) the pipe diameter doubles; (ii) the pipe length doubles. Your answer should not exceed 100 words. [6]
