W2 Disc Ch2 Note: From this week on till the end of the semester, there will be two topics for you to choose from to discuss each week. You need to

address only one topic and interact with the peers on the topic. Review the issues that developmental theories have raised (pp. 32-35). In addition to the four central issues such as nature-nurture and continuity-discontinuity we learned earlier, this section puts forth two other central issues. Take one new issue from this section to explain why it is so important, and how it is related to the any the central issues we learned in the first week. Tips: • Note how intertwined each new issue with the other central issues with which we got familiar earlier. Use your own examples and reliable information to make your points. • One example of the intertwining relations between two central issues can be seen in the question of whether individual differences are continuous or discontinuous. If a child shows an earl verbal high performance, will this ability continue to develop and shine in her adulthood? • Consider adopting a grand theory or a contemporary theory from last week's reading to discuss how the theory you picked fits with the spectrum of the central issue, e.g., passivity-activity or universality-context specificity. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
