Question

Write a 3 to 4-page (not including your title page or reference page) paper summarizing Section 9.4 Prostitution, from the Chapter 9 readings (Sexual Behavior) in the required textbook. Discuss the history of prostitution and the different types of prostitution. Compare and contrast the Structural-Functional, Social Conflict, and Symbolic Interactionist perspectives of prostitution (i.e. Table 9.5). Lastly, discuss the challenges of dealing with prostitution, as presented in the section readings. Your paper discussion MUST connect specifically to sociology and the required readings (i.e. provide properly formatted in-text citations and a properly formatted reference section). Recycled papers or papers used for other classes will not be accepted, no matter how "close" to the course you think they are. A new and original paper must be submitted! You will notice increasing point deductions for papers that continue to fail to meet the basic formatting and submission guidelines. It may appear as though I am being a stickler for how your papers are written and submitted. This is not me being personally picky or just doing things the way I want. Quite the opposite! The sooner you learn how to confidently write a basic academic paper, the better. If you think I am being strict with paper format and submission now, and do not follow my advice, you will find the next level much more challenging than you can even imagine now. The formatting and submission requirements in this class mirror basic formatting and submission expectations at the next level (i.e. when you matriculate to your 4-year college or university). Format: 1-inch margins all around 3 to 4 pages long (not including your title page or reference page) Use at least 1 outside source (not including your textbook, but the textbook should be your primary source!) Unjustified margins 12-point font Double-spaced Include a Title Page (Title, Name, Course Number, Date) APA or MLA format (either one is fine, but stay consistent throughout your paper) Include a Reference Page (APA or MLA format, but stay consistent) Submit your paper as an MS Word document with file extension, “.doc” or “.docx” (you can access the MS Office suite through your LTCC email) Assignment: Write a paper clearly summarizing the information in Section 9.4 (i.e. History, Types, Table 9.5, & Challenges), as presented in the Chapter 9 readings. IMPORTANT: Your discussion must connect to sociology and the required textbook. You should also incorporate research from at least 1 outside source into your discussion. Outside sources can be television shows, websites, books, articles, images, etc. The main point with your outside source is that it should be relevant to your discussion and be properly cited within the body of your text and in your reference section. Not only am I looking for a thorough discussion, but I am also looking for you to find a way to synthesize or connect the information from the readings. How does your research connect with the readings? How does your research conflict with, or challenge the readings? I'm looking for a developed and thoughtful discussion. I want you to be able to analyze the required readings objectively (using sociology and your research) and subjectively (using your own brain and developing your own opinion). Grading Standard: A (90-100pts) Analytical discussion [not summary] of the major arguments made in the assigned research studies and all other course material on race, class using relevant sociological concepts, theories and evidence Superior comparison and contrast of assigned readings using concrete examples Superior integration of all material covered in class to complement assigned readings Ability to provide sociological critiques of specific readings
