The director Vittorio De Sica used American actors in his films of the early to mid-50s while maintaining neorealist crews because he was not a social activist or reformer rather his personality depicted traits of a Hollywood movie star as those of being a gambler, singer, and a lady’s man (Bondanella & Pacchioni, 2017, p. 160). Further, this happened because America at that time was influenced by Italian neorealism and focused on making films in actual settings rather than staging them on Hollywood sets (Bondanella & Pacchioni, 2017, p. 160).
