1) List the x and/or y components of the forces which cause a moment about the point you have selected to sum moments about (the lines of action of these

forces don't pass through the point you are summing moments about). 2) For each force component above, write the moment arm (the perpendicular distance from each force's line of action and the point you have selected to sum moments about). 3) For each force component above, write the direction of the moment that force component causes about the point you are summing moments about (clockwise (CW) or counterclockwise (CCW)). 4) Write the moment equation (E M point = 0). If a force component causes a CW moment, that term in the equation must be negative. If a force component causes a CCW moment, that term in the equation must be positive. Include all unknown support reactions that cause a moment about the point you have selected. 5) Solve for the unknown in the equation. Write the answer in terms of a magnitude and direction.
