Question

2. Janice tacks a note on the cork notice board in her dormitory of Town University saying that she wants to sell her coffee table for £30 which she states is in "perfect condition". The note has little tear off strips with her mobile phone number. She gets a text from Walter an hour later at 10 am which reads: "What's the lowest price you'd take for the coffee table?" She quickly replies: "It's yours for £25." Two hours later she gets a text from her cousin Trudy who is studying at another university asking if she can buy Janice's coffee table, adding: "I'll pay you whatever you want for it." Janice then gets a phone call from Trudy's mother and tells her: "Tell Trudy I'll bring over the table next weekend." She then bumps into her classmate Ivan who says: "Here's £40 for the coffee table. I need a swanky table for my party tonight. My boss is coming over." Janice takes the money and Ivan removes the coffee table from her room. At Ivan's party, a leg breaks off the coffee table spilling hot coffee all over Ivan's £200 persian rug and injuring the foot of his boss, who happens to have brittle bones. The boss now can't walk and has to cancel five tennis lessons he was due to give, leading to £500 in losses. He angrily tells Ivan, "You can forget about that promotion, you idiot." The next morning Janice discovers that she had received a text from Walter at 10.20 am which she hadn't read: "Perfect I'll get it tomorrow." Advise Janice as to any obligations she may have towards Walter, Trudy and Ivan.
