Question

4. In a wastewater treatment unit, an operator mixed 3 liters of carbon tetrachloride CC14

with 67 liters of methanol CH3OH. In a previous day, another operator mixed 50 kg of

carbon tetrachloride with 12 kg of methanol. It is desired to mix the two solutions and

produce a final product that contains 50%wt carbon tetrachloride. Determine the

maximum amount of product that can be made from these two solutions? Given

(S.G.CC14=1.595 and S.G.CH3OH-0.792) Hint: you must use trial and error to decide the

quantity needed from each mixture to get the final desired concentration.
