Question

5. A heat pump operates on the ideal vapor-compression refrigeration cycle with R-134a as the working

fluid. This heat pump is used to keep a space at 25 °C by absorbing heat at a rate of 3.565 kW from

geothermal water flowing through the evaporator heat exchanger. The evaporator operates at 20 °C,

and the condenser pressure is 1.2 MPa. The compressor receives work at a rate of 30 kJ/kg. Determine

(i) mass flow rate of the refrigerant, (ii) the rate of heat transfer to the heated space and (iii) the COP
