I personally identify with Erickson's stage of adolescence. The years of adolescence are integral to a young adults development and eventual identity of themselves. During adolescence every experience and encounter can greatly impact their personalities into young adulthood and beyond. I have personally worked with adolescents who lived in a group home and personally seeing them engage with each other was fascinating. There were those who kept to themselves and could tell they were being impacted by recent events in their young lives. When I was an adolescent I was privileged to make most of my own decisions. This impacted my personal culture and the view of myself. I surrounded myself with peers who seemed to have similar background and privileges. My relationships with my parents and peers didn't necessarily mold me into who I became but rather influenced my thinking and decision making. There are some of my family members that believe that children shouldn't have an opinion and follow as their parents and other adults say. I personally believe that children should have valued opinions and input, especial for decisions that may greatly impact them.
