I'll describe an instance where I upheld my moral standards of being sincere and uncorruptible and showed integrity. This story is based on an incident that happened to me when I was working in a healthcare department and had to enter patient data into the hospital's computer system. When I was employed at Max Hospital, I dealt with a burnt lady case. Her family claims it was an accident, and she got third-degree burns. That might be accurate. The lady was in a dreadful state. She cannot comment on the accident since she is unconscious. Her in-laws want me to edit the entry and add that the victim said it was an accident and that I should include that information. They were attempting to bribe me for this. I had the option to uphold my integrity or, otherwise, accept a bribe and remain quiet. If I did not make the requested modifications to the documentation, her family threatened to fabricate a discharge letter and take the woman home. The woman's condition was grave, and if her family refused to support her, the hospital would not be able to treat her properly. It is obvious from her family's actions that it was not an accident; rather, they were responsible for making it happen. I was in a pickle. I was baffled by the time requirement and was unable to attend to the right discussion. The woman's life must be saved as a first priority if I'm to uphold my moral standards. To meet the demands of the present, I must find a reasonable compromise under the circumstances. I told her family that I had recorded the statement and stored it in the files before lying to them to get her therapy started. I called the police and recounted the situation to them when the physicians began her treatment. The police hauled them in for questioning while they got to work on their inquiry. By the time the woman's life was spared and she regained consciousness, she gave her statement and accused her mother-in-law and her husband of receiving dowry. Families had a very important role. In fact, they are guilt-free. I had a pretty difficult time managing the issue. When the police revealed the full situation, the hospital's personnel and I were given accolades. The lesson I learned from this case is that a deception uttered in order to save someone's life is not a lie and does not fall under any category of sin. This case will always stand out in my memory. In the workplace, we should never stray from our values. To sum up, I want to say how much I admire the woman for having the guts to say that her in-law does not treat her properly. Every issue has a positive side, and it is up to us to decide what is good and bad. Always taking the good side is what we should do. Being in the field of nursing, our first priority should be to save the lives of our patients.
