and beams)

arm for initial trial equal to 0.9d. Limit the selection of reinforcing steel to # 10 bar only and

determine the number of bars required to carry the factored moment.

(e) Check strain in tensile steel (e,) and determine reduction factor ($).

(f) Select minimum bar size to be used as stirrup. Provide minimum side cover if the concrete is not

exposed to weather or ground contact and check the spacing of the # 10 bars. Check the bottom

cover of the beam against minimum cover requirement. Sketch and label your final design.

(g) Calculate the actual design moment capacity, M, and verify that it is greater than M.
