NOTE FROM STUDENT:

You will most likely need to cite indirect sources for this essay. An

indirect source is when you want to cite Author X, whose work appears in

Author Y's paper. For example, let's say I want to reference Rosalind

Gill, whose argument appears on p. 226 of the Tennent and Johnson article.

In this case, I would write:

Rosalind Gill has put forward the idea that "feminist activism is granted

limited attention beyond social media" (qtd. in Tennent and Johnson 226)./nWriting Instructions:

Write in complete sentences.

Do not go over the maximum word limit (1,000 words). In-text citations do

count towards the word count. The Bibliography/Work Cited page and your

information (name, student number) are excluded.

Your essay should have an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

The order of your body paragraphs can take a variety of forms, e.g. you

can identify one feminist argument, discuss and respond to it, before

moving on to the second argument, OR you can discuss all 3 arguments at

once before discussing and analysing all 3 as a whole. Have a think about

what you want to write about, do a mind map and/or essay draft, then see

what format works best for your ideas.

"I statements" are welcome and encouraged.

By examples, I am referring to references to specific events and people.

i.e. Emma Watson's HeForShe campaign is an example. Phrase such as

"celebrities tend to increase awareness and make us more attuned to social

justice cause" is a hypothetical statement and not an example.

You can use examples from this reading and/or the other readings. You can

also use your own examples.

pay close attention to the authors' central argument and try to engage

with it in your writing.
