Water to be pumped from a lake to a storage tank in a ranch. Water temperature is 60 °F. The

elevation of the pipe exit that will feed the tank is 55 ft higher than the lake water surface. It is

required that a 4-hour pumping time will feed the storage tank by 2000 gallons of water. While

operating at the required flow rate, the pump will generate a head of up to 60 ft. Coefficients of

minor loss due to filtering, fittings, and valves in the suction pipe is 28, and in the discharge, pipe

is 12. The total pipe line length from the intake to the exit is 2300 ft. It is required that the

distance from the tank to the pump to be minimum.

Design the pipe system by:

a) Selecting the pipe type and size from the list of pipes shown in the tables below.

b) Finding the location where the pump should be installed (i.e. length of the suction pipe).
