In "The Oval Portrait" Edgar Allan Poe supports all his characters in plotting his story development. As we read we find the mostimportant characters in the short story are the wounded man, who is the main character; the painter, and the young woman in theportrait, as secondary characters. Note that Pedro, the wounded man's valet, is also briefly mentioned in the story. "The portrait, I havealready said, was that of a young girl. It was a mere head and shoulders, done in what is technically termed a vignette manner; muchin the style of the favorite heads of Sully". This component shows the artist's mind about her physical appearance. 1. How was British theater different from American theater in the colonial era?
