Overview The term paper aims will showcase your mastery of a particular topic as it relates to youth in conflict with the law. You will be tasked with conducting thorough research, evaluating diverse perspectives, and crafting a well-structured argumentative paper that substantiates the thesis statement while proposing feasible strategies to address the identified issue(s). The assignment serves as an opportunity to apply critical thinking, research skills and argumentative prowess in addressing a concern related to youth and the law of your choice'. Due Date The assignment is due on March 21st (week 10). Assignment Components • Introduction: 。 Begin your paper will an engaging introduction that provides context and background on the issue. Introduce the significance of understanding this topic and the need for effective solutions to address it. 。 Present a clear and concise thesis statement that states your argument and encapsulates the primary focus of your paper. You should also include an overview of how your paper is organized. Body Paragraphs: 。 The body of your paper will present background information and context to support your argument. You have some flexibility with how you structure the body of your paper; however, you should be mindful to start your body paragraphs with a clear topic sentence that supports your thesis and introduces the main point of your paragraph or section and incorporate scholarly research that support your argument and reinforce your thesis. Synthesize the academic research on your selected topic to justify your thesis statement. This section will encompass the bulk of your assignment. o Be mindful of counterarguments that can be made against your thesis; anticipate opposing viewpoints and consider evidence and reasoning to support your stance while acknowledging the potential complexity of the issue. Discussion and Conclusion(s): o Propose and analyze potential solution(s) to mitigate the issue you discuss. Consider, for example, preventative measures, intervention programs, future research, community involvement, government/policy action, reforms, and/or social supports. Be specific and ensure your proposed solutions align with the overall focus of your paper. o Acknowledge and discuss the challenges and/or limitations in addressing this topic or solutions proposed. If you are applying to post-graduate programs, schools often ask for a sample of writing. This assignment may prove to be an effective exercise in producing academic writing that you can use for future applications. Emphasize the significance of addressing this topic. Assignment Structure Your assignment should be approximately 6-8 pages (approx. 1500 to 2000 words) double spaced. Include a title page and reference page (including all materials you reference). Please follow APA citation and formatting guidelines. Ensure you use clear and logical paragraph structure with topic sentences and supportive evidence. Use a variety of credible/scholarly sources (6-8 minimum) to support your arguments. Properly cite all sources and ensure the paper represents your original work. Maintain a formal, academic tone and use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation throughout the paper. Your assignment will be evaluated based on the clarity and coherence of your argument, depth of analysis and critical thinking, use of credible sources and evidence, organization and structure, and adherence to guidelines and formatting requirements. Emphasis will be placed on the development of a persuasive argument supported by scholarly evidence and sound reasoning. Submitting Assignment on Courselink Under the Assignment Tab, students will submit their assignment in a Microsoft Word doc to Dropbox on Courselink. Please note that Turnitin is enabled, and you can view your similarity score prior to submitting your assignment.
