PART II: Film Images

In this section you will comment on a total of 3 images: one image from a film that you think

relates to the work of Munsterberg/Film Formalism, one image from a film that you think relates

to Walter Benjamin's theories, and one image from a film you think is particularly well suited to

talking about Bazin and Film Realism.

Include reference to what you see as central points of the theorist in question that are particularly

well represented in the film you have chosen, and this shot in particular.

If you talk about narrative structure (where the shot comes in the story or plot of the film) it

should be in this context. In other words, don't simply re-tell the plot of the film - be specific

about what it is about this film that relates to either Munsterberg's formalism, Benjamin's ideas

about film, or Bazin's film realism. Remember that you are talking about a film image so think

about the shot from which the image is taken.

You may find it helpful to use my glossary of cinematic devices to help you talk about film

images in this section.
