This chapter also introduces concept of human factors as the research about human beings and the application of that research in designing products and systems for human beings. This is a very important topic when it comes to products for human beings. A very important aspect of avoiding ergonomic hazards, is how we use products and our posture. Below is an animated image showing the posture of 2 computer users. As you might guess, the red one is not good while the green one represents good posture and a setup that is ergonomically configured to avoid issues. 14 In this discussion, I would like for you to examine your own situation in terms of using your own computer. Is it good? Could it be improved? If you are like most people, there is always room for improving your posture when using your computer. As I sit here working on this discussion assignment I can tell you that I am not optimizing my ergonomic situation with using my laptop. I the textbook, there is a diagram on page 213 that depicts the recommended ergonomics for using a Video Display Terminal (VDT). The VDT can be a desktop computer or a laptop. Examine this diagram and use it as a reference for the discussion steps below. Step 1: Post your discussion answering as a minimum the following questions in regard to your conclusions based on reviewing the Army statistics: 1. What can you say about your own ergonomics for using your computer or laptop? More specifically, what elements of the setup from the diagram in the textbook could you improve upon for your own situation?
