The beam shown below is supported at the two ends A and C. The length and loadings are as

shown.

a) Draw a FBD of the entire beam, and compute the reaction forces at A and C.

b) Determine functions for internal shear force, V(x), and internal bending moment, M(x),

along the length of beam.

c) Neatly plot V(x) and M(x).

d)

If the rectangular load were replaced by a triangular load that linearly increases from 0

kips/ft at point B to a maximum of 5 kips/ft at point C, describe (but don't calculate!)

how the shape of the plots for V(x) and M(x) would be altered.
